New home pathology services
In 2007, Mater Pathology began offering a home collection service for Bayside residents.
Utilising a team of fully qualified Certificate III collectors specialising in the collection of specimens for general adult, maternity, paediatric and neonatal tests, the home service allows Bayside residents to access Mater Pathology’s expertise from the comfort of their own homes.
Designed to meet the needs of those less mobile, the flexible, personalised service includes same day collections and prearranged appointments, as well as taking fasting specimens.
The service also specialises in International Normalized Ratio (INR) monitoring, is fully bulk billed and is available between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
Director of Mater Pathology, Dr John Hinds, believes the home collection service to be significant in the provision of alternative health care services to those unable to access pathology through traditional outlets.
“While the home collection service is available to all, it is particularly suited to elderly and disabled patients, as well as mothers with young children,” Dr Hinds said.
The areas covered by Mater Pathology’s mobile service include: Wynnum, Wynnum West, Lytton, Tingalpa, Manly, Manly West, Lota, Hemmant, Thorneside, Ransome, Wakerley, Gumdale, Chandler, Capalaba, Capalaba West, Birkdale, Alexandra Hills, Wellington Point, Ormiston, Cleveland, Thornlands, Victoria Point and Redland Bay.
