Mater Foundation

Mater is part of the Queensland community, and has often called on community support to help it deliver its unique brand of health care. In 2007, Queenslanders continued to show that support by donating over $6 million to Mater Foundation, the philanthropic and community arm of Mater.

Some of the highlights include a $1 million gift from businessman Vince Rehbein to prostate cancer research at Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI), and the first Mater House for Life, a gift from Plantation Homes and Delfin Springfield Lakes, was sold to raise funds for the new Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.

Queensland’s oldest real estate art union, Mater Prize Home, celebrated its first million dollar prize home on the Gold Coast.

Our 2007 Mater Little Miracles Easter Appeal was another success, as were the many community fundraising events that took place throughout the year.

Success in fundraising lies in what is achieved with the money raised. In 2007, the Foundation supported over 330 projects across all the Mater Hospitals and MMRI. They have ranged from multi-million dollar projects, such as the new Mater Mothers’ Hospitals to small grants from the Foundation’s mission fund, which helps patients and their families who are in financial hardship.

The impact that the relatively small amounts of money distributed by the mission fund show that no matter how small the gift is it still has the potential to change lives.
