ecoBiz partnership

Mater Private Hospital Redland (MPHR) has been awarded a commendation for being the first Queensland hospital to be given official ecoBiz partnership status.

ecoBiz is a partnership program between the Queensland Government Environmental Protection Agency and Queensland Businesses. The program objective involves taking a closer account of resources—energy, water and materials—and proving that it is possible to do more with less.

MPHR entered the program in 2006 and results from 2007 show a decrease in water consumption, a review of waste handling and increased recycled waste collection. The hospital also found there has been a significant decrease in natural gas usage, with correlating decreases in greenhouse gas emissions.

“This program has motivated our staff to participate in environmentally friendly work practices and has highlighted many ways we can provide our services more effectively,” Director of Clinical Services Cheryl Clayton said.

“The staff have been really keen to play their part in building an ecologically sustainable future in the beautiful Bayside area.”
