A Sustainable Future
After more than 100 years of providing health care in Queensland, it would be easy for us to assume that we know all there is to know about managing a sustainable business. But, after 100 years of providing health care we have learned not to assume, and never to be complacent. Indeed, we always seek new and better ways to provide our service for the community. A part of that commitment has been to develop sustainable business practices that help us to improve our service, reduce our waste and maximise our capacity to continue to serve.
Even this website is an example of our commitment to sustainability. Ordinarily, we would produce a full colour printed annual review for distribution to thousands of people across Australia. In an attempt to impress our stakeholders, the printed annual review would usually span more than 60 A4 pages and be packed with glossy images and quite lengthy features about all of the great stuff we do.
The 2007 Annual Review is different. This year we produced a much smaller printed version on 100% recycled and environmentally responsible paper. We distributed it, for the most part, through existent communication channels, as an insert in a magazine for example, to save postage costs and envelopes. And, we created this website.
So, by using the web in conjunction with a more efficient print run, we are actually able to provide even more content to a broader range of people across the globe. In fact, we intend to deliver more than 100 pages of information for in excess of 10,000 readers. The whole project has been conducted with sustainability in mind and whilst we can always do more, we have already achieved some positive environmental and financial improvements from our new approach.
All of the people at Mater and the people we provide care for would like to thank you for supporting our 2007 Annual Review project through this website. Your support has helped us to deliver a more efficient and sustainable communication service, which saves us money, which can be reinvested in patient care and community services. Again, thank you.
